A new laboratory school needed to quickly and inexpensively transform and old Allstate insurance building into a one room school house with flexible spaces, environmentally friendly materials, and room for lots of experimentation and collaboration.
We sealed the concrete floors once the carpets were pulled up - transforming the "Science" room floor into a global map tracking ocean currents and land environments. Using FLOR tiles, the main room carpet doubles as a method for teaching x-y coordinates. We designed a rack that was flexible and kept backpacks off the floor and displayed current school projects. Finally, the "library" was transformed into a comfortable space for reading and lounging. |
